Sometime we have money to save in a bank or savings and loan institution. Joe the Bartender may come into our bank with a good business plan and want a loan to build a new tavern. Our money, that God provided, is then loaned out to damage lives in the community. Or, at least it seems like it is our money. We should want even our savings to honor the Lord. The Scripture says in Proverbs:
Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops . . . .While the intent of the statement is talking about giving back to God part of what he provided for us, yet we are required to honor the Lord with what we have. Is there a way to assure that our savings will be used only for good? Yes.
There are state-licensed private foundations that loan money only to build church buildings. They operate just like a savings and loan organization. Several of these focus exclusively on loans for churches of Restoration heritage. The source of the funds they loan is from Christians that deposit their money with them. One organization based near Denver has 47 million dollars out on loan to finance buildings. Many of these churches would not have been able to build if they had to rely on local financing. In other cases, the leaders of the church would have had to sign personally for the loans.
Thousands of Christian have already loaned their wealth to honor the Lord while the money was simply parked and drawing interest. When Christians loan to Christians, our savings can be returned at any time, we earn above bank rates and we provide for Growth in the Kingdom of God all at the same time. It's like keeping your cake in perfect condition and eating it, too.
Another feature is that you can even specify which church building you want your money to be on loan for. The church with the loan may receive a loan payment discount because your money is present. All the while, you are drawing interest.
Additionally, we can teach our children several things by helping them save even tiny amounts of money with these private foundations. One is the importance of saving money and the other is that their savings can be helping with the growth of the church.
PRAYER: That even our savings can help church groups provide space for those not yet converted to Christ.
