There is one loan that will not go bad. It is guaranteed, default- proof and is adjusted for inflation. Here is the secret: In addition to our Christian giving, we can loan to God. Hear wise Solomon in the Proverbs:
He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.Taking pity on the poor is lending to the Lord. And repayment is guaranteed by the Creator himself. Taking pity on the poor may simply mean that we listen to them. The Scripture says,
A poor man is shunned by all his relatives how much more do his friends avoid him! Though he pursues them with pleading, they are nowhere to be found.A godly person is making a loan to God when he lends his concern to those in need. Or we may need to help the poor with food as the Scripture says,
A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor. Some have found it faster to provide cash, but that solution needs to be carefully thought out. Giving a poor person cash may just prolong their condition by letting them put off finding a solution. If their poverty is due to misusing their money, more money will not help. But whatever it takes, we cannot ignore the poor who cross our paths. Hear God's Word:
He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses. The Bible has much to say about the poor and poverty. The two words are in the Bible 199 times. We can loan to God by showing concern and making sure that someone in God's image is not going hungry or without shelter from the elements. This gift to man and loan to God will be repaid from a closely guarded fund by the Loan Officer of the Universe.
PRAYER for us to have the wisdom to respond to the poor.
